Winter and Spring.
Through my window gazing at the rain and the snow
Feeling the chill when the east winds do blow.
The monochrome sky a requiem to summer long gone
A nostalgic recall of the warmth of the sun
Days grow shorter without a care
For mere mortals who the darkness must bear
Summer has fled taking its halcyon days
Leaving only the bleak winter’s cruellest of ways
The trees stand bare awaiting their cold weather sleep
Until the coming spring it’s promise to keep
New buds, new leaves, new hope is the call
For the human race one and all
Gardens in limbo their beauty diminished
For another year are the blossoms finished
Until the season turns once more
As they have done since times of yore.
Hope springs eternal, so they say
Of rejuvenation, a new summer in the month of May
So, give thanks, rejoice and let your heart take wing
New life truly is a wondrous thing.
